Renowned German bassist Torsten Müller has become a valued collaborator in our vibrant creative music scene since making Vancouver his home some seven years ago. A fearless improviser who continually expands the sonic possibilities of his instrument through extended techniques, Müller has played with trombonist Gunter Christmann since the late ’70s. British saxophonist John Butcher has created a vocabulary that can accommodate any number of disparate musical concepts, including free improvisation, compositional structure, multi-tracking, and live electronics. He has performed with Derek Bailey, Paul Lovens, Phil Minton, Steve Beresford, and Gerry Hemingway. Drummer Dylan van der Schyff excels, whatever the context: mainstream jazz or free-improv settings. He leads his own group, Bande X, and also works in Vancouver bands like Talking Pictures, NOW Orchestra, and the Peggy Lee Band.
